Pelican Wire Co. discusses social responsibility and it’s commitment to sustainability in Wire Journal International, Page 68.

Social responsibility is a big factor in a lot of our opera- tional decisions. We also get peer pressure from our “greener” customers, such as one that made a die to remold their PEX bleed out scrap into packaging materi- als for their product. Reduction of VOCs in our saturation and enameling processes has been our most conscious decision in this regard.
The solvent-based prod- ucts have more history and are easier to work with (shorter drying times, better adhesion, etc.) but they are not very environmentally friendly. We spend a lot of time finding water-based sub- stitutes and adapting them to our products whenever possible.

Often times “green” may refer to RoHS and REACH compliance. Since the advent of RoHS, the Union Court has new rulings, such as the list of hazardous substances changes. For instance, Deca-BDE (decabromodiphenylether) was recently put back on the list. There are still a number of companies who purchase and use this FR component in their product (knowingly). We, however, do not. Brad Burris, Pelican Wire Company, Inc.
